What flames the timeless passions spanning the decades? Love, desire or obsession?
Colin Jorgenson, once a Great Lakes mariner, is a strong man haunted by love and loss. How long will he return each night, gripped by desire, hoping to find the woman he has loved for a century?
Beneath the pristine Island beauty, passions hungered, lingered in the ardent darkness. His passions, fueled by decades of loneliness and longing, could no longer be denied. Will they face eternity together or love in secret as dark things are to be loved between the shadows and the soul?
I just finished The Para-Portage of Emily. Quite the
page-turner!!
I was gifted a free copy by the author and found it to be a
cleverly woven plot with descriptive characters you won’t soon forget. I’m not
one to give out spoilers,
but if you like paranormal intrigue, hot romance, and
mystery, you will love it. Looking forward to more works by Muffy Wilson as I’m
sure they will be just as brilliant.

It looked like a magical castle
rising from the mist in an enchanted forest. Oh, it was enchanted, all right, Emily thought to herself. And so very beautiful. It must have felt
wonderful to be loved by such a man who honored his love, his wife, with such
magnificence.
“To be adored like that is how
dreams may come true, if one truly believes.” Emily said aloud, to no one but
Barkley who looked at his love adoringly. “Yes, your love is constant, but the
love of a man like that, took a woman like Amalya. Those days have passed with
the centuries. Men and women are not like that anymore, Barkley. Love is a
fleeting convenience, now, between professional people needing healthy sex. Ah,
Barkley…but we can dream, can’t we?”
They mounted the steps to the
massive carved oak front door. Emily leaned against the hand twisted and tooled
wrought iron railing, just to catch her breath. The door was etched and carved
with such majesty. She ran her glove-covered hand over the heavy wood, dipping
her fingertips into the plumed design. And
what dreams would you tell if you could talk, of the love and lovers that lived
behind your protection? Emily thought as she scolded herself for waxing
acting so nostalgic when she had a great deal to do.
She opened the door, only to see
what she took as a shadow move into the library. Barkley stood starkly still
when his usual pursuit was the kitchen to eat. His low quiet growl alarmed
Emily—her eyes had not deceived her. No one had come down the drive, nor had
she seen anyone but the man from the jetty walking the grounds. Barkley had not
alerted to anything unusual so it could only be someone else who had come in
the back of the house while she walked the mile and back to South Point. She
was shaken at the prospect someone was in the library, but cast off the thought
as nonsensical. Who would want to hurt
her? It all passed through her head quickly, in but a second of reasoning.
“Hey, there, who are you? What
are you doing here?” And with that, Emily’s brazen personality surfaced. She
subordinated any marker of fear, and took control by walking boldly into the
library. When she strutted into the library, there was no one there, just she
and Barkley, who was standing decidedly well behind the protection of her feet.
Barkley jumped upon the couch and claimed a higher vista around the room. But,
in the same amount of time, Emily determined she was alone—starkly alone. But,
this could not be. She was quite certain she had seen someone or something, a form or a shadow of a man moving
within the foyer to the library. She was intent on finding what it was, but
found nothing. There were no footprints, no melted snow droplets, nothing
askew. It was perplexing.
There was no doubt about it and
it gave way to her questioning herself and her confidence. And then she
realized something…she still had her sunglasses on. Of course, coming in from
outside created a margin of fog on her lens, creating the suggestion of a
shadow.
Silly
woman, she
thought to herself as she saw Barkley curl into a completely unthreatened curl
of fur on the library sofa. She was certainly taken by her clever imagination.
There had certainly been a lot of fodder to stoke her creative imagination and
it certainly had fueled it, indeed. She straddled the armrest and petted her
little friend in an effort to regain her composure.
Yes,
of course, that was it.
This is a story to savor. Ms. Wilson's descriptions are
poetic and enthralling,
placing the reader in the midst of the story, and the
relaxed pace of the story does not lessen the power of suspense. Shrouded in
mystery, romance, and eroticism, "The Para-Portage of Emily" is a
treat for the senses,
a haunting indulgence. Despite hints throughout, the
ending still surprised me, and though satisfied,
I regretted the literary
journey's end. Highly recommended. I look forward to more from this promising
series. ~ By Jordan

I really enjoyed the Para-Portage of Emily... a skillfully
and imaginatively told tale of love, lost and found. Mysterious twists kept me
turning the pages until the end.
Love conquers all, AND it was hot!

Other Novels and Contributions:
Should John Grisham and EL James have a secret love child,
she would no doubt pen legal thrillers with a luscious layer of the erotic.
They would name their child Muffy Wilson and send her to Stephen King for some
pointers in the paranormal.
Wilson, in the obliquely titled "The Para-Portage of Emily",
interweaves these three diverse genres into a compelling, magic carpet of a
novel that takes Emily Macque from Chicago to a bitter island estate two
hundred miles north in the frozen sea. Emily is the striking junior partner in
her father’s law firm, her mission, to settle the probate on an estate, her
destiny to fall into the arms of Colin Jorgenson, a seaman haunted by a past
love that torments his life.
Intelligent, well-written, with fully fleshed out characters and a story with
more twists than a spiral staircase, "The Para-Portage of Emily" had
me gripped until the very last page.
